Data Conversion Laboratory Releases Harmonizer 3 to Analyze Large Content Collections
Software Identifies Redundant Content to Inform Content Reuse Strategy

Fresh Meadows, NY, October 2, 2019 – Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL), an industry leader in structured data and content transformations, today announces a major update to its Harmonizer software application. Harmonizer analyzes document collections using natural language processing (NLP) to identify redundant content in the collection. Leaner content collections improve content management across business units and save time and money. Extensive content reuse and the elimination of redundant content are particularly critical when planning a DITA or S1000D implementation.

With a major architecture overhaul, Harmonizer 3 handles larger document collections and provides expanded intelligence to identify closely matched, as well as redundant, content. DCL has been working extensively to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into its text analysis. New algorithms in Harmonizer process text not only faster, but also with deeper intelligence and precision in terms of content matches.

As in the prior version, Harmonizer analyzes a wide variety of file formats simultaneously, including XML, HTML, Word, and other formats. Results are now delivered as both HTML and Excel reports that pinpoint potentially reusable content.

“Eliminating excess text and standardizing documentation not only saves time and money but also improves editorial accuracy,” explains Christopher Hill, Product Manager at DCL. “Our customers find that Harmonizer is a critical first step when defining a content reuse strategy and the analysis helps operationalize information to improve content management, and provide the information needed for ROI analysis.”

With greater processing power to analyze massive content sets along with a more easily managed configuration system, many organizations will benefit from improvements in document quality, reduced translation costs, and content standardization. Harmonizer routinely identifies text redundancies in excess of 50%.

DCL is an active member and participant of industry organizations that support the management and effective interchange of data and content such as the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM), S1000D User Forum, National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS), National Information Standards Organization (NISO), Book Industry Study Group (BISG), and Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).
