PRESS RELEASE
Data Conversion Laboratory Dives in to Rescue Jason Lewis' eBook: "The Expedition: Dark Waters" Published by BillyFish Books
Experience points to importance of quality & timely conversion

New York, NY: The challenge: hundreds of pages, detailed images, and less than one week to convert to an eBook and meet their publishing deadline. The solution: Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL). DCL, the leader in converting content to new formats, recently came to the rescue of independent book publisher BillyFish Books, to create the eBook version of Jason Lewis' extraordinary, award-winning story, The Expedition: Dark Waters, True Story of the First Human-Powered Circumnavigation of the Earth. After a discouraging, less-than-successful experience with another content conversion company, BillyFish Managing Editor Tammie Stevens found DCL.

"DCL was our lifeboat in stormy seas," reflected Stevens. "We chose DCL because we could tell they honestly cared about the project and were willing to do whatever it took to help us."

This project was of particular importance to BillyFish; the book is a star in the publisher's firmament. The first in a thrilling adventure trilogy, The Expedition: Dark Waters has garnered outstanding reviews (including The Utne Reader) and an appearance by Jason Lewis on The Tonight Show.

BillyFish Books found themselves caught in a predicament — their original vendor had promised quality work to be finished within a few weeks, but had only half of the project done by deadline. What had been completed was rife with errors. So began the BillyFish/DCL partnership.

Says Stevens about DCL, "They made us feel as if we were their only client. All eBook versions of The Expedition: Dark Waters look perfect. The conversions were done right the first time, while meeting our seemingly impossible deadline. The entire process only took one week. A very short time, but long enough to know we will never use anyone else."

"BillyFish Books' experience points directly to the importance of choosing the right service provider who can convert your content correctly, efficiently, and without errors, right from the start," said DCL's CEO Mark Gross. "We have a long history of working with publishers of all sizes, such as McGraw-Hill, Alexander Street Publishing and Houghton Mifflin. We are delighted to add BillyFish to this roster."

With ever-evolving technologies and new devices, publishers must be poised to produce adaptive content at a moment's notice in order to realize those new revenue opportunities. DCL has the technology to make this possible and the added human element to make it personal — and accurate.

"We look forward to many future endeavors with our DCL family... at least that's what they feel like to us," said Stevens. "They have the tools to make your project a success, and their experience and professionalism alleviate your worry."
