Data Conversion Laboratory Joins the Audio Publishers Association to Advance Growing Audiobooks Market
Support and Services for High-Quality Production and Industry Metadata Standards
Fresh Meadows, NY, December 10, 2019 – Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL), an industry leader in structured data and content transformations, became a member of the Audio Publishers Association (APA). Formed in 1986, the APA is a not-for-profit trade association that advocates the common, collective business interests of audio publishers.
The audiobook publishing market continues to experience massive growth. The W3C is currently developing a new metadata standard called Audiobooks, which is poised to accelerate the distribution to online retailers and better support both publishers and consumers. DCL supports publishers with metadata services that facilitate the distribution and discovery of audiobooks.
“DCL has a long history providing content structure and metadata services; DCL will advocate and lead the implementation of the Audiobooks standard,” explains Mark Gross, president at DCL. “With the impending release of the Audiobooks metadata specification, the nearly $1 billion dollar industry will finally have a standard for production, distribution, and delivery.”
“Audiobook publishing represents an estimated 12% of trade publishing revenue and has experienced 7 years of double-digit growth in volume and revenue,” states Michele Cobb, Executive Director at the Audio Publishers Assocation. “We’re pleased to welcome DCL to the APA.”
DCL is an active member and participant of industry organizations that support the management and effective interchange of data and content such as the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM), National Information Standards Organization (NISO), Book Industry Study Group (BISG), and Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).
